The Graduate School of Social Sciences consists of five departments: the Department of Economics (Master’s Program and Doctoral Program), the Department of Business Administration (Master’s Program and Doctoral Program), the Department of Global Business (Master’s Program), the Department of Professional Accountancy (Professional Degree Program), and the Department of Professional Business (Professional Degree Program).
As part of our efforts to respond to the changing circumstances brought about by the rapid globalization, in 2019, the University of Hyogo reorganized its undergraduate schools, opening the School of Economics and Management with the goal of preparing students to play an active role on the global stage, particularly in the fields of economics and business administration.
In order to further pursue this goal, in 2021, the new graduate school was established to provide more advanced levels of education and research in economics and business administration and to offer prompt and flexible responses to the needs of society.
The new graduate school has four major features: education and research programs that benefit from our past achievements and long-lasting traditions; the Department of Global Business, created as an extension of the Global Business Course in the School of Economics and Management; a clearer and more specific visions of how to assist students in their development in their chosen fields; and enriched, recurring education programs.
Through conducting in-depth interdisciplinary research activities in fields related to economics and business administration, we will equip our students with essential expertise and skills, as well as foster their desire to follow ethical principles and behaviors. In doing so, our graduates will be of benefit to society as researchers and highly specialized professionals, thereby fulfilling society’s expectations.

The Department of Economics, which aims to enable its graduates to engage in work requiring advanced research abilities, offers a Master’s Program and a Doctoral Program. For the Master’s Program, we enriched the curriculum to help students acquire essential abilities in their respective fields of expertise in phases. We accept students of any age, as long as they have an undergraduate university degree and can attend daytime classes.
The Department of Economics (First Stage of the Doctoral Program) started the English program in 2023. The English Program provides courses in English. Please see here for details.
The Department of Business Administration (DBA), which aims at developing students’ abilities to engage in work requiring advanced research abilities, has a Master’s Program and a Doctoral Program. In addition, the DBA enhanced the educational curriculums to help ensure students progressively acquire the essential abilities they need in their respective chosen fields of expertise in phases.
The Department of Global Business (DGB) aims mainly at fostering businesspersons who wish to play an active role on the global stage. Students will study law, comparative culture, and other relevant courses, as well as business administration, economics, and Japanese business. All classes will be offered in English. In the Consulting Project class, students will develop perspectives necessary for a global businessperson through participation in fieldwork overseas. The DGB offers fall (September) admission in addition to regular admission in April.
The Department of Professional Accountancy offers a Professional Degree Program to enable students to become professional accountants, mainly through the study of accounting as a basic subject. Classes in this program are conducted during the daytime on weekdays, and the department accepts recent university graduates and unemployed recent university graduates with work experience.
The Department of Professional Business (DPB) has a Professional Degree Program for students who desire to become business professionals, mainly through the study of business administration. Since classes in this program are conducted mostly on Saturdays, the department accepts full-time workers and others who have relevant work experience.
