Goal 4 of the SDGs is “Quality Education for All. There are many children in the world, both in developed and developing countries, who are suffering from difficulties due to inadequate education. As Japanese university students who are fortunate enough to have the opportunity to learn, what can we do to help?
CHISE, a student organization to which members of Inui\'s seminar belong, has been providing educational support to poor villages in the mountainous areas of northern Laos for a long time. Last year, during an online visit to the Lonrad village, the group discovered that there was no kindergarten due to a lack of children and teachers, and that even upper elementary school students could not read or write in Lao. In response, this year we provided support for a Lao language literacy class for kindergarten students at the site.
We summarized the details of this initiative and its effectiveness and presented it at the 11th National Conference of the Japan Association of International Liberal Arts (JAILA) in February 2023, where we received the Outstanding Presentation Award. The award ceremony will be held at the national conference at Toyo University in March 2024.
