[September 30, 2023] Community Development Gardener Theme Course to Create Bio-Nests

[Graduate School of Landscape Design and Management] 2023.09.30

On Saturday, September 30, students in the Awaji Landscape Planning and Horticulture Academy\'s Community Gardener Themed Course created a bio-nest to serve as a simple composting yard. The bio-nest was created by piling up dead trees and pruned branches from the campus in a circular shape. Approximately 20 participants worked together, completing the project in about 30 minutes. It resembled an art piece and aesthetically pleasing. The bio-nest, named for its resemblance to a bird’s nest, is beneficial for the growth and breeding of living organisms. Because it is made of natural materials, it blends well into the landscape of parks and gardens. By repurposing grass clippings and pruned branches as compost that can be used int the park rather than discarding them as waste, this system promotes sustainability. It is a good way to kill three birds with one stone.
