About Us

Greetings from the Department Chair

A globalized society does not mean the erasing of local cultures, quite the opposite, it creates the need for a deeper understanding not only of our geographical neighbors, but also of friends and potential partners living thousands of miles away. Multicultural societies need cooperation and knowledge from various areas, that is why our Global Business department offers a multidisciplinary approach to academia in the hopes that our graduates will acquire here the skills needed to become a citizen of the world. Working in the “Global Village” implies both high level professional aptitudes, as well as a profound practical comprehension of the world we live in. Our department, situated in an international campus, which in turn is located in one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Japan, represents the ideal place to learn business for the 21st century through the lens of the Japanese culture, which gave birth to some of the oldest enterprises in the world.

Carmen TAMAS, PhD
Professor and Chair, Department of Global Business

Department of Global Business

The Department of Global Business, where all classes are taught in English, is associated with the Global Business Course in the School of Economics and Management. Its primary goal is to nurture global business professionals and international civil servants who can contribute on a global scale. In addition to economics and management, the program emphasizes problem-solving skills that help students connect with people in diverse and multicultural environments, understand differences, and overcome divergent values, worldviews, and historical perspectives to address challenges. The Department of Global Business provides enrollment options for both April and September.

Education and Research Purpose

The Department of Global Business aims to cultivate graduates who possess specialized knowledge and skills in both Japanese and international business, as well as the ability to adapt to different cultures to be able to succeed in the global marketplace. Graduates should also possess the skills to identify academically significant issues and conduct logical analyses using theoretical frameworks. Furthermore, they should be able to apply their acquired specialized knowledge and skills to contribute to society.
