Designated as a WHO Collaborating Center for Nursing in Disaster and Health Emergency Management in 2007, we have been promoting research on disaster related nursing and health. After changing the name to the WHO Collaborating Center for Disaster Risk Management for Health in 2017, we are developing activities on disaster risk management in health/medical fields on a broader scale.

| Terms of Reference | 1. Contribute to the building capacity of public health workers in disaster risk management for health. 2. Provide technical support for international emergency responders, including WHO staff, in the area of psychosocial health as needed. |

WHO Collaborating Centres include research institutes and parts of universities or academies that are designated by the Director-General of the World Health Organization to carry out activities in support of the organization’s programs. Currently, there are over 700 WHO Collaborating Centres in over 80 Member States working with the WHO on areas such as nursing, occupational health, communicable diseases, nutrition, mental health, chronic diseases, and health technologies. There are 36 institutions that are designated for this purpose in Japan.
WHO Collaboration Centres for nursing and midwifery, including our centre, form a network that promotes information sharing and cooperation between centres. This network publishes newsletters and organizes meetings for representatives from each centre once in two years, where nursing education and solutions to health problems are discussed at a world-class level.
